Crown Lengthening in Silverdale, WA

IMPROVE YOUR TEETH’S APPEARANCE

At Lowell Street Dental Implants & Surgical Center, Dr. Wilde offers crown lengthening for patients looking to change their teeth’ appearance. Excess gum tissue can make your teeth look small as well as make it difficult to treat oral infections and perform thorough cleanings during dental visits.

With crown lengthening, your teeth look longer and become easier to treat. Read on to learn whether crown lengthening is the solution for your teeth’s needs.

WHAT IS CROWN LENGTHENING?

Crown lengthening (or crown exposure) is a procedure to remove excess gum tissue to expose more of your tooth’s surface. If you’re in need of dental restoration, such as a dental crown or bridge, a significant amount of tooth structure is required so that it can be placed properly and secured.

A crown lengthening procedure is needed to remove the excess gum tissue. Additionally, this procedure can be used to correct a “gummy smile,” where your teeth look unusually short due to the excess gum tissue.

BENEFITS OF CROWN LENGTHENING

Crown lengthening offers many advantages for patients such as:

  • Create a more symmetrical smile
  • Expose more of your natural teeth
  • Aids to better oral hygiene
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Restore damaged teeth for dental restoration
  • Decreases chances of gum disease or oral infections

CROWN LENGTHENING PROCESS

The procedure involves adjusting the level of the gum tissue and bone around the tooth in question to create a new gum-to-tooth relationship. This allows Dr. Wilde to reach the edge of the restoration, ensuring a proper fit to the tooth. Furthermore, it allows you to clean the edge of the restoration when you brush and floss to prevent decay and gum disease. The procedure takes approximately one hour.

When the procedure is completed and sutured, a protective bandage is placed to help secure the new gum-to-tooth relationship. You’ll need to be seen in one or two weeks to remove the sutures and evaluate your healing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Am I a candidate for crown lengthening?

If you have aesthetic or dental issues that require exposing more of your tooth structure, you may be an ideal candidate for crown lengthening. During your initial consultation with Dr. Wilde, he’ll examine your teeth’s appearance and determine if you’re in need of crown lengthening.

Can my dental insurance cover the crown lengthening cost?

Most insurance companies should be able to cover a portion of the crown lengthening procedure cost. We recommend speaking with your insurance provider beforehand to get an accurate understanding of your coverage plan. If the coverage isn’t enough, we also offer financing options to ease your worries.
