LANAP® IN SILVERDALE, WA

RESTORE YOUR GUMS

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a serious oral infection that can affect your teeth and general physical health. When patients are in the gingivitis stage, it can be reversible with professional cleanings during one of your biannual visits to our dentist. However, if left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss, and gum recession, and will later put you at risk for further complications such as heart disease and strokes.

Treatment is necessary to prevent gum disease from spreading and affecting your overall health. At Lowell Street Dental Implants & Surgical Center, we understand you may be intimidated by the surgical procedure. Luckily, we have the latest dental technology — LANAP® to make sure your periodontal treatment is safe, quick, and comfortable for you.

WHAT IS LANAP®?

The Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) is a laser-based treatment for gum disease. LANAP therapy is a safe, effective, and painless procedure that focuses on improving your oral and general health. LANAP cleans beneath the gum line in a way that’s more gentle than traditional treatments.

The treatment can be done using the PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser for gum treatment. In order to treat the gum disease, this laser uses a specific wavelength to combat the bacteria all while leaving your healthy gum intact.

BENEFITS OF LANAP®

There are many benefits LANAP offers that make patients prefer this rather than the traditional gum disease treatment method. These benefits include:

  • Minimal pain and discomfort
  • No scalpels or stitching needed
  • Less bleeding
  • Reduce gum inflammation
  • Reduce the risk of infection
  • Faster recovery
  • Long-lasting results
  • Preserves healthy gum
  • Stimulates gum and bone regeneration

LANAP PROCESS

During your initial consultation, Dr. Wilde will conduct a dental examination in order to check your oral health condition. He’ll also review your medical condition, take X-rays and impressions of your oral health, as well as answer any questions you may have. Once he determines LANAP therapy is the right treatment for you, he’ll start your treatment plan.

Once you come back to our Silverdale office for your procedure, we’ll thoroughly clean your mouth before applying local anesthesia to ensure you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. Once the local anesthetic is working, we’ll begin the process by using a laser light that’ll go directly into the pockets between your gums and teeth. The laser light is used to target and eliminate the unhealthy gums caused by the infection, leaving your healthy gums intact.

Afterward, Dr. Wilde will use the laser to form a blood clot around the cleaned area. This is to reattach your gums for minimal bleeding and fast recovery. Once Dr. Wilde deems it complete, you can leave our office and continue on to your day. Depending on the severity of your case, Dr. Wilde may recommend you to come in for a second treatment session.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is LANAP painless?

When undergoing the LANAP procedure, you won’t feel any pain or discomfort, unlike traditional methods of treating gum disease. With the PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser, our treatment is safe and effective, and you will experience little to no pain. Our staff will also monitor you throughout your procedure to make sure you’re comfortable.

Can LANAP regrow my gums?

Yes, LANAP can regrow your gums and the laser can regenerate the gum tissue. After cleaning out the infected areas, your healthy gums stay intact and the missing gums can grow back to their original position. However, if your gums were badly infected by the gum disease, Dr. Wilde can regrow your gums by the gum graft treatment.
