What is a Periodontist?
Periodontists are dental specialists who focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that affect the gums and the supporting structures of the teeth, such as the bone and connective tissues. After completing dental school, they undergo additional years of advanced training in periodontology, which equips them to manage complex cases of gum disease, perform surgical procedures like gum grafts and bone regeneration, and place dental implants. Periodontists also play a key role in helping patients maintain long-term oral health through specialized maintenance programs, often working closely with general dentists and other specialists to provide comprehensive care. Their expertise ensures that both functional and aesthetic concerns related to the gums and supporting tissues are properly addressed.
